Cole Miller met T.J. O’Brien on the Facebook preliminary portion of UFC on Versus 5. Miller looked more accurate with his strikes than O’Brien early, but TJ was willing to throw punches and kicks with power. Eventually, the power was enough that when he connected it forced Miller to retreat although it was Cole who landed a hard left hook on the separation.
Late in the first round there was a moment where O’Brien threw a kick and appeared to hurt his foot or leg. Miller followed up by landing a series of hard right hands that appeared to hurt his foe.
Round two saw the fighters continue to battle it out on the feet. O’Brien looked to be getting the better of the stand-up in the round before a left hand by Miller dropped O’Brien to the ground. Cole stood over O’Brien, pounding his legs with brutal leg kicks. Eventually O’Brien got desperate and shot for a takedown only to get locked in a one arm guillotine which Cole finished from the mount coupled with a body triangle.
The win was Miller’s first in 2011 after having lost to Matt Wiman in January.
