After the news came out that Evangelista Santos was forced to withdraw from his July 30th fight with Paul Daley at Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson, there has been a lot of speculation about who would replace Cyborg. Much of that speculation surrounded undefeated prospect Tyron Woodley, and today it appears that Strikeforce has decided to go in that direction. MMAJunkie has it:
Sources close to the show today told MMAjunkie.com that a welterweight bout between Tyron Woodley (8-0 MMA, 6-0 SF) and Paul Daley (27-10-2 MMA, 2-1 SF) is in the process of being finalized for the card.
It’s not clear if Nick Diaz’s recently vacated welterweight title will be on the line.
Daley’s last outing was for the Strikeforce welterweight title as well, where he was stopped by then-champion Nick Diaz in a thrilling fight. Woodley was expected to challenge Diaz for the belt before he vacated it to move to the UFC. Woodley’s biggest skill is his wrestling, which is something that has given Semtex trouble throughout his career. Can T-Wood hang with Daley? It looks like we’ll find out July 30th.
