Strikeforce officially announced Fedor Emelianenko vs. Dan Henderson a while ago, but waited until today to add secondary fights to the July 30th card. And the two additions certainly provide a lot more flavor for the event. The first hadn’t been rumored for this particular card, but was pretty logical considering semi-recent developments. MMAWeekly has it:
Strikeforce women’s welterweight champion Marloes Coenen will look to make her 2nd successful title defense, this time facing Miesha Tate. The pair were originally set to square off in March, but a late training injury forced Tate out of the bout.
Coenen went on to submit replacement Liz Carmouche in the 4th round of their title bout in Ohio. This will be Tate’s first fight since winning a one night tournament in Strikeforce in the summer of 2010.
The second bout should come as no surprise to people that follow Strikeforce, as it had been rumored for a while now:
The other fight announced for the late July card is a light heavyweight bout between Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal and grappling ace Roger Gracie. MMAWeekly.com first reported the bout between Lawal and Gracie in early April, and now Strikeforce has confirmed the bout as a done deal for the card.
Other rumored bouts for the July 30th card that have yet to be announced include Evangelista Santos vs. Tarec Saffiedine and Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante vs. Ovince St. Preux. The card is expected to air on Showtime.
