UFC 134: Rio continues to come together. The event will be held at the HSBC arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on August 27, 2011. The latest announcement is Paulo Thiago taking on David Mitchell in a welterweight tilt. Sherdog with the news:
Welterweight submission specialists Paulo Thiago and David Mitchell have agreed to square off UFC 134 in Rio de Janeiro. Thiago informed Sherdog.com of the matchup on Monday evening.
“I’m signing my contract right now and I’m very happy,” said Thiago. “Fighting in Brazil again is like a dream. All my friends and family will be in Rio de Janeiro.”
Thiago has lost two consecutive fights in the UFC after becoming a fast rising contender at 170 pounds. While tough, David Mitchell is a significant step down from the names Thiago has fought since joining the promotion (Jacob Volkmann excluded). Mitchell is 11-1 in his career with his lone loss coming in his only UFC bout, at Fight Night 22 against Anthony Waldburger.
