Earlier this month, Chael Sonnen met with Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Chair Keith Kizer and Zuffa brass to discuss Sonnen’s comments about a conversation he claimed to have with Kizer with regards to his use of testosterone and his application for a cornerman’s license to coach on the next season of the Ultimate Fighter. While Kizer said the meeting wasn’t productive, Sonnen told Ariel Helwani that “[H]e told me I could come before his body as soon as I got done with the federal thing and look forward for a second chance.”
Sonnen was scheduled for a hearing with the Nevada commission on April 27th, but that meeting has been put on hold. Fortunately, this doesn’t sound like Josh Barnett’s quest to regain his license in California, which is now approaching two years since pissing hot prior to his scheduled bout with Fedor Emelianenko at Affliction: Trilogy. A source close to the fighter’s camp told MMAjunkie.com that the delay comes not from Sonnen but his federal probation officer, who has denied him permission to enter Clark County as part of a mandate to keep convicted felons out of the county for the Laughlin River Run, an annual motorcycle rally that’s in its past seen violence from rival motorcycle clubs.
The Laughlin River Run is most known for an incident in 2002 that left three dead and about a dozen others in the hospital following an attack on the Hell’s Angels by rival motorcycle club the Mongols.
Nevermind that the city of Laughlin is 100 miles south of Las Vegas, and that the state of Washington convicted Sonnen of a nonviolent, white collar crime. Government, of course, is not known for a proclivity toward logic and reason.
So far, there’s no word on a rescheduled date.
