Welterweight Brian Foster has been forced out of his upcoming bout with Sean Pierson at UFC 129, due to a minor brain hemorrhage he suffered in training. The UFC confirmed the news today on its website, and Foster’s trainer at the H.I.T. Squad, Marc Fiore, told MMA Junkie that doctors believe the burst blood vessel would heal on its own without surgery, but would require Foster to rest and heal. A replacement opponent for Sean Pierson is being sought with the event just over two weeks away.
“A blood vessel broke open, started bleeding, and turned into a brain hemorrhage,” Fiore said of the injury. “Our doctor and the UFC doctor said they won’t clear him to fight.”
“It should heal on its own, and if it’s good, he’s cleared to fight. If not, then we have to obviously (look at surgical options).”
