Last Sunday SBNation’s MMA editor Luke Thomas interviewed this year’s 157lbs Division 1 NCAA Men’s Wrestling champion Bubba Jenkins on his ‘MMA Nation’ radio show for Washington DC’s 106.7 The Fan. As I mentioned in my NCAA Wrestling Results write up Jenkins previously wrestled for Penn State University until a falling out with new coach and 2004 Olympic Gold medalist Cael Sanderson leading him to transfer to Arizona State which has served as home base to Aaron Simpson, Ryan Bader and UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez.
Jenkins, a team mate of the inspirational 125lbs champion Anthony Robles talked with Thomas about his team mate and how they train together, as well as his own account of his win and dramatic story in addition to his plans for an MMA career and which current UFC fighter he sees modeling himself on. A must listen for anyone wanting to know more about this charismatic wrestling champion.
