Bloody Elbow Radio, presented by Bad Boy, was live Tuesday afternoon to recap the weekend in mixed martial arts. Hosts Matt Bishop and Forrest Lynn closed the book on Strikeforce Challengers 15 and Bellator 39. We also took a look at the progress of the featherweight and bantamweight divisions in the UFC and how recent departures from lightweight could help. We also were joined by Head Kick Legend’s Matthew Roth for a brief discussion of WrestleMania 27.
We were first joined by Bellator lightweight tournament semifinalist Lloyd Woodard to discuss his fight with Michael Chandler this weekend at Bellator 40. We talked with him about fighting out of Montana, the scene there and of course, his sweet mustache.
“Being from Montana and going to other states to fight all the time, a lot of people really didn’t know where I was from. I wanted people to know where I was from. My mustache reminds me of being in Montana, being a mountain man. There’s ton of stuff to do out here and it’s a signature to let people know where I come from. That’s Montana. I started growing it out about the middle of my pro fighting career and I had a fight in Tacoma and it was for a belt and I started growing it out then. People asked me about it and I was like, ‘It’s because I’m from Montana.’ So hopefully people realize Montana’s got some tough guys out here.”
Then we chatted with the weekend’s breakout star, Strikeforce Challengers competitor Lorenz Larkin. He came in on short notice and beat up Scott Lighty, winning by TKO in the second round. We talk about that fight and if he was nervous making his Strikeforce debut.
“I finally got the jitters out from fighting in smaller promotions and the jitters came right back right when I got into the arena. I was nervous.”
“I knew I was in for a tough fight. I knew he had a solid chin, but don’t get me wrong, I thought I could knock him out. Once we started fighting, I realized he wasn’t one of those guys you can just finish off easy. He’s a real, real tough opponent with a lot of good skills behind him.”
Bloody Elbow Radio returns to the air Thursday to preview the weekend in MMA.
