Brandon Vera Ready to Take Full Advantage of Second Chance

UFC light heavyweight Brandon Vera was cut after losing to Thiago Silva at UFC 125. But Vera got a second lease on life, or at least life inside the UFC after Silva failed a post-fight drug test. Brandon Vera’s last UFC win came against Krzysztof Soszynski at UFC 102 in August 2009. Vera talks to MMA Fighting:

“I don’t want to take anything away from anybody who’s gone through it, because I know people who’ve gone through cancer, or some kind of disease or trails and tribulations in their life where they’ve almost died and have been brought back and they changed their life. That’s kind of like where I am at now. I was on my deathbed, they pulled the plug. I died. I’ve been resuscitated. I’m back baby. It’s a good feeling.”

“(Receiving the call from the UFC) It’s changed my whole outlook on life. I remember sitting at home, watching my TV; just thinking what am I going to do now. I was unemployed. I got fired from the UFC. I sat there probably for a week, maybe two weeks just sitting there. I really didn’t have no plans. What else am I supposed to be doing but fighting? How could I let my job, my love, stop. How could I have let it slip away from me? You don’t realize what you’ve got till it’s gone. And I got a second chance; they gave it back to me. So I’m going to take full advantage. Refreshed, renewed and I’m back.”
