Jon Fitch Injured, Out of UFC 132

Jon Fitch just can’t catch a break. Despite a 13-1-1 UFC record going back to 2005, including 8 and 5 fight win streaks, he’s only ever gotten one title shot. After he fought B.J. Penn to a tie at UFC 127 he was set for an immediate rematch at UFC 132 with a title shot going to the winner. Now he’s hurt with an injury sustained during training according to MMAWeekly.com. Sadly, it’s goodbye title shot for Jon Fitch.

Fitch’s removal from the fight was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com by sources close to the situation on Wednesday.

While no details were available regarding the nature of the injury, it was severe enough for Fitch to withdraw from the July 2 card.

As of now the UFC has not found a replacement to step in and face Penn, but the search is underway.

July 2nd, live on Pay-per-view from Las Vegas, Nevada:

Dominick Cruz vs. Urijah Faber [BW title]
B.J. Penn vs. TBA
Ryan Bader vs. Tito Ortiz
Melvin Guillard vs. Shane Roller
Evan Dunham vs. George Sotiropoulos
Matt Wiman vs. Dennis Siver

[UPDATE] – Carlos Condit tweets:

It would be an honor to fight a legend like BJ Penn, one of my favorite fighters ever. If the call comes, I would take the fight in a second

[UPDATE 2] – Fitch is out with a shoulder injury.
