Bad Boy Presents Bloody Elbow Radio: UFC on Versus 3 Preview, Mike Straka, Alexander Gustafsson, Brendan Schaub

Bloody Elbow Radio, presented by Bad Boy, was back on the air Tuesday afternoon for another edition of the show. Matt Bishop, Forrest Lynn and Mike Fagan were joined by three guests on the day. First off, they welcomed Mike Straka of HDNet’s “Fighting Words with Mike Straka” to preview his interview with UFC boss Lorenzo Fertitta on this Friday’s show and talk about his show and plans for the future.

Next up was an interview with UFC 127 winner Alexander Gustafsson. Gustafsson talked about his win over James Te Huna in Sydney, Australia this past weekend and much more.

Finally, we were joined by UFC 128 heavyweight Brendan Schaub. He’ll be fighting Mirko Filipovic at the show and he talked about what it’s like to now be fighting someone he avidly followed as a fan when he was in college.

Also on the show, we previewed this week’s UFC on Versus 3, which is headlined by a welterweight contest between Diego Sanchez and Martin Kampmann, and had a live edition of “Snowden vs. Subo” where Jonathan Snowden and Derek Suboticki debate the merits of Michael Bisping.

All this and more Charlie Sheen references than you can shake a stick at on this edition of Bloody Elbow Radio!

Don’t forget, Bloody Elbow Radio is sponsored by Bad Boy. Bad Boy, the 2010 World MMA Awards win

In honor of baseball’s return, Bloody Elbow Radio returns to the air Thursday for a day-night doubleheader. We’ll be live at our normal time of 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT and are expecting to be joined by “Strikeforce: Feijao vs. Henderson” fighter Jorge Masvidal and Bellator 35 competitor “Judo” Jim Wallhead. We’ll also preview both the Strikeforce and Bellator shows. Then, at 11:30 p.m. ET, we’ll be live to review UFC on Versus 3.

Our guests, Straka, Gustafsson and Schaub, all had very interesting things to say.

Straka discussed his exclusive interview Fertitta and talked about the difference Fertitta has made, especially in the UFC’s international efforts.

“I believe Lorenzo has made a huge difference during the time he’s been in place, particularly in the international expansion. Hiring Mark Fischer in Asia … the potential for Asia is huge. China, they think is going to be a big play for them. Think back a year ago, the Sheik of Abu Dhabi buying 10 percent of the UFC. That’s another Lorenzo move. There are things he made happen very, very quickly.”

We talked to Gustafsson the day reports came out about the UFC possibly heading to his home country of Sweden later this year.

“It would be a very huge thing in Sweden. I think the arena would be full of people. Folks are starting to know UFC more and it’s starting to get very popular there. I think it will be very successful. I would love if I could have a fight there on my home ground.

“It would mean a lot to me (to fight there). That would be a dream for me to fight for the UFC on my home ground. It would be awesome.”

Schaub says he respects Cro Cop but he’s not going to go out and have a hug fest with him a la Pat Barry back at UFC 115.

“See, the big difference between me and the rest of the guys he’s fought, you know, I respect the guy, and the way I show my respect is by punching guys square in the mouth. Dana White, Joe Silva know that and there’s a reason I got this fight.”
