In the opening bout of the UFC’s free Facebook preliminary bouts, Chinese import Zhang Tie Quan (12-1) took on Jason Reinhardt (20-1) in featherweight action. Quan sported an undefeated record of twelve wins before dropping an unanimous decision to Danny Downes at WEC 53 in December. He previously defeated Pablo Garza at WEC 51 in his debut with the promotion.
Reinhardt entered the UFC with an impressive eighteen win undefeated streak at UFC 78. After some deeper analysis into his victories, it was evident that Reinhardt had fought poor competition. It showed in his debut bout against Joe Lauzon, who destroyed Reinhardt in one minute and fourteen seconds. Reinhardt bounced back following the loss with two wins outside of the UFC against equally terrible competition before being sidelined with eye problems.
Reinhardt’s UFC career most assuredly came to an end on Saturday night. After an initial toe-to-toe battle in which Quan evaded Reinhardt’s massive overhand rights, Quan caught Reinhardt in a guillotine choke, almost instantly putting him to sleep. The submission came at 0:48 seconds into the opening frame. The victory won’t vault Quan up the ranks, but it does lend some credence to the notion that he has the training and skills to compete at the highest level.
