Following the loss of his title at World Victory Roads most recent event, as well as probablity of Sengoku discontinuing operations, Sandro has found a new place to start his quest back towards featherweight gold. Prior to his fall from the top, the Nova Uniao stand-out was riding a three fight win streak, all of them by KO. His only loss prior to that was a controversial decision to Michihiro Omigawa during Sengoku’s Featherweight Grand Prix.
Sadly fans won’t be seeing Sandro in the cage anytime soon. He won’t be participating in Bellator’s upcoming featherweight tournament, but they can expect him to be fighting sometime in 2011. Perhaps Bjorn Rebney will push him into a superfight with current champ Joe Warren? One can only hope.
“Marlon Sandro is a phenomenal talent at 145,” said Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney. “Our Featherweight division is absolutely stacked and Sandro pushes that talent pool to an even higher level, I’m thrilled to have him on board.”
[UPDATE] via @joshgrossespn:
I hear if fighter requests a release, SRC is obliging. (Hatsu) Hioki has one fight remaining on his deal and apparently prefers UFC to Bellator.
Don’t believe UFC had much interest in Sandro since he’s connected to Aldo. Bellator contracts are more severe than UFC’s, FYI.
