Luke Thomas brought up a good point on last night’s edition of Bloody Elbow Radio: While Fabricio Werdum was the man who ended Fedor Emelianenko ‘s run, Antonio Silva was the first man to beat him up. We’ve seen Fedor put in bad spots before, but I can’t remember thinking, “Wow, Fedor doesn’t look good,” like I did last night. FightMetric provides some stats that show just how unprecedented Silva’s performance was:
He landed 28 significant strikes in the fight, eight more than any previous opponent in Fedor’s career.
He landed two takedowns, tied with Mark Coleman (twice) and Kevin Randleman for most landed in a fight against Fedor.
He attempted three submissions, tied with Fabricio Werdum for most attempted in a single fight against Fedor.
He executed six passes, three more than the previous high by a Fedor opponent.
He also shut one grotesquely swollen eye.
