Bellator 34: Live Results and Commentary – Hector Lombard vs. Alexander Shlemenko

As with every major show, Bloody Elbow will be here to bring you live results and commentary for Bellator 34. The live blog will start with the beginning of the FSN broadcast (8 p.m. ET) so make sure to make Bloody Elbow your home for this event.

As always we have our one rule: NO SPOILERS! In the interest of not ruining anything from the undercard that may make the broadcast we ask that you do not discuss the results of the undercard in the comments until either the broadcast ends or the fight makes the air.

Mike Bernhard vs. Dragan Tesanovic

Round 1 – Tesanovic standing southpaw to start the fight. Bernhard whiffs on a right straigh to the body, left hook to the head. Middle kick lands for Tesanovic. Bernhard charges in with a similar combo and hits nothing but air. Coming in Bernhard charges again, but eats a nicely timed left from Tesanovic. Bernhard, however, is able to land a takedown against the fence. Tesanovic back to his feet. Both fighters jockey for position and underhooks along the cage. Tesanovic spending more time with his back against the cage. Referee Troy Waugh separates them. Bernhand charges in again with his chin high in the air and positionally linear. Both fighters clinch along the fence. Referee Waugh separates them again. Tesanovic lands a knee to Bernhard’s middle but is taken down as the round ends. Not much action. Bernhard the aggressor, but Tesanovic lands the better shots. Tesanovic 10-9.

Round 2 – Tesanovic is switching stances now and getting more aggressive now. Tesanovic lands several low kicks and a left hand. The referee stops the fight temporarily due to an eye injury. The action resumes. Low kick lands for Tesanovic, but Bernhard lands overhand right. Bernhard lands inside leg kick. Now Tesanovic claims he was poked, but the action is halted only for a few seconds. Hard inside leg kick by Tesanovic. Beautiful left hand from Tesanovic catches Bernhard walking straight. The fighters clinch along the fence as Bernhard pressures Tesanovic there. Bernhard trips Tesanovic to the mat. Bernhard passes to side control after Tesanovic initially opted for Butterfly guard. Bernhard takes the back and is able to sink a deep RNC, but Tesanovic is saved as the round ends. 10-9 Bernhard.

Round 3 – Tesanovic lands nice, tight uppercut on Bernhard. Inside leg kick lands for Bernhard, but the American seems more hesitant. Another inside leg kick for Bernhard. Right hand lands for Bernhard and more small inside leg kicks. Another inside leg kick for Bernhard, but it’s more of a flick than a driving strike. The crowd begins to boo due to a lack of action. Tesanovic throws a big punch, but misses wildly. Bernhard is literally shadow boxing right in front of Tesanovic. Almost no action, but Bernhard did a touch more. 10-9 Bernhard.

Bellator Women’s 115-Pound Title Fight
Megumi Fujii vs. Zoila Frausto

Round 1 – Both fighters come out in a low stance. Fighters trade punch attempts, but both miss. Fujii is a south paw. Left hand lands for Fujii. Nice middle kick lands for Frausto. Left hand from Fujii nails Frausto and temporarily knocks her down. Fujii is doing the stalking while Frausto circling both into and out of Fujii’s power hand. Left hand lands for Fujii. Twice. Right hand lands a little for Frausto. Shovel punch from Frausto misses the mark. Head kick for Frausto lands and more punches from the underdog. Fujii is reeling and Frausto pounces. The Japanese phenom is saved by the bell. Frausto steals the round. 10-9 Frausto.

Round 2 – Right hand lands for Fujii. And another left. Frausto throws another head kick, but misses. Another left hand for Fujii. Another head kick misses and is almost caught by Fujii. Both fighters trade punches, but Fujii appears to land more. Fujii stil doing all of the stalking. Left and a right for Fujii. Make that another right for the Japanese fighter. Middle kicks lands for Frausto off of a missed punch. Frausto still “launching” punches from her shoulder as she reaches off balance, but hitting mostly air. Much more measured round. Easy call. 10-9 Fujii.

Round 3 – Fujii goes right back to stalking. Fujii throwing a ton of feints, both wrestling and striking. Inside leg kick lands for Frausto. Right hand for Fujii finds the mark. Nice inside leg kick by Frausto, but she’s still backing up and hitting lots of air on her reaching strikes. Left hand to the middle lands for Frausto. And another big left as Fujii got out of position. Frausto lands another left, but misses with a head kick. No takedown attempt in sight for Fujii. Outside leg kick for Frausto. Big right from Frausto barely misses. You can tell who is winning the round based on who is stalking. Another big leg kick and punches land for Frausto. Fujii taking a fair amount of shots here. Much more damage done by the challenger. 10-9 Frausto.

Round 4 – And, again, Fujii goes right back to stalking. Still no attempt from Fujii to find the takedown. Not much landing for serious damage to open the round as both fighters trade punches. Nice inside leg kick for Frausto finds the mark as does a left hand. And another inside leg kick. Left hand lands as she steps in for Fujii. Finally the Japanese fighter clinches. Frausto still clinched, but puts Fujii’s back against the cage. Fujii tries to uchi mata Frausto over, but the challenger was able to whizzer out. Two big right hands land for Frausto. 10-9 Frausto.

Round 5 – like every round before it, Fujii opens the round stalking Frausto. Takedown attempt shrugged off by Frausto. Nice body shot by Fujii. Frausto answers with an inside leg kick. Fujii is ducking coming in trying to get close to Frausto, but eats a few shots in the process. Fujii throws a left and uses it to close the distance, but can’t get anywhere with the takedown. Both fighters land nice punches on each other. Nice left hand lands again for Fujii, but Frausto lands one of her own. Fujii goes for the single leg against the cage, but can’t get it. With a minute left, both fighters look very battered. Nice left for Fujii lands in an exchange. Fujii goes for a double, gets stuffed, but changes angles and finishes the takedown. Frausto looks exhausted. Fujii ends the round and fight on top. 10-9 Fujii.

The judges score it 48-47 Frausto, 48-47 Fujii, 49-46 Frausto. Frausto wins by split decision.

Bellator Middleweight Title Fight
Hector Lombard vs. Alexander Shlemenko

Round 1 – Referee Troy Waugh is the third man in the cage. Fighters start the fight throwing huge punches, Lombard landing most of them. Lombard is literally walking Shlemenko down. An uppercut and right hand land for Lombard. Lombard gets the takedown and lands a monster elbow. Shlemenko rolls and Lombard lets Shlemenko stand. The fighters separate standing. Middle kick lands for Shlemenko, but Lombard catches it and takes the Russian down. Shlemenko hits the uppa sweep, but Lombard recovers the top position in Shlemenko’s guard. Both fighters seem to have slowed down. Lombard lands another big elbow from Shlemenko’s closed guard. And another. Shlemenko’s face is a mess, but the Russian appears to be game. 10-9 Lombard.

Round 2 – Shlemenko throws spinning back kick that misses and Lombard gets the takedown. Shlemenko, however, stands. Side kick for Shlemenko lands, but Lombard executes a single leg takedown. The ATT product is now working on top. Nice elbow for Lombard lands with Shlemenko’s head against the cage. Shlemenko stands back to his feet, but is dragged back down. Yet, Shlemenko stands back up again. Right hand finds the mark on Shlemenko’s chin. Shlemenko throws a knee, but is double legged to the ground before he could sit into the strike. 10-9 Lombard.

Round 3 – Right hand for Lombard lands. Shlemenko, the taller fighter, trying to land kneeds in tight. Lombard dives for Shlemenko’s legs and gets the takedown. Lombard working from the closed guard of the Russian, trying desperately to land an elbow. Referee Troy Waugh stands the fighters up due to inactivity. Nice knee by Shlemenko to Lombard’s life side. Shlemenko going over and over to the body with punches and kicks, but Lombard gets another double leg. Lombard working on top, but not doing much. Referee stands them up again. Spinning back kick lands to the body of Lombard. Another knee to the body by Shlemenko, another takedown and another as Shlemenko tries to stand. VERY close round, but decent strikes plus too much wrestling from Lombard makes him the winner. 10-9 Lombard.

Round 4 – Side kick from Shlemenko misses. Both fighters patiently their turn to find the time to attack. Lombard catches a kick and drives Shlemenko into the fence. And from there, gets the takedown. Shlemenko creates space and stands back up. Knee to the body from Shlemenko as the fighters clinch in the center of the cage. Lombard changes levels quickly and gets another takedown. Shlemenko gives his back and tries to stand. Lombard thought about getting both hooks in, but abandons it. Lombard tosses Shlemenko to that mat, but the Russian rolls out and stands again. Middle kick from Shlemenko, but a right hand from Lombard as well as another takedown. Lombard not doing much on top. Left hand from Lombard lands as does a middle kick from Shlemenko. He’s not doing much to take it, but Lombard is doing just enough. 10-9 Lombard.

Round 5 – Head kick from Shlemenko misses. Fighters clinch and trade shots, both landing big. Lombard changes levels but couldn’t complete the takedown. Lombard is hanging out in the clinch. Spinning back first for Shlemenko partially lands, but doesn’t appear to hurt Lombard. Lombard catches another middle kick and rolls Shlemenko over to the ground. Shlemenko gives his back and tries to stand, but the referee separates them. Spinning back fist and follow up from Shlemenko lands. So does another knee from a takedown attempt. Both fighters taking deep breaths. Shlemenko throwing every punch he can at Lombard, some landing, most not. Shlemenko throws a knee, but is wrapped up by Lombard again. 10-9 Shlemenko.
