Todd Duffee Cut by the UFC

According to mmajunkie.com:

Heavyweight prospect Todd Duffee is no longer employed by the sport’s largest mixed martial arts promotion.

Multiple sources with knowledge of the move, and Duffee’s manager, Alex Davis, confirmed the report.

Todd Duffee (6-1)
Loss Mike Russow – KO (Punch) UFC 114
Win Tim Hague – KO (Punches) UFC 102

[UPDATE] Josh Gross has some commentary via Twitter:

Sounds like accumulation of things led UFC to release Todd Duffee. Overall attitude probably being at the top. Duffee’s rep on plane to U.S.

Quote from Duffee’s manager Alex Davis. Great one. Via text: “Well, I’m not sure exactly what the problem or problems were.I tryed [sic] …

hard to avoid, but Dana wasn’t listening. It unfortunate, but Todd’s an ass.” Said Duffee will keep fighting, of course.

UPDATE: Gross has a correction:

QUOTE CORRECTION — If you picked up the Alex Davis quote regarding Todd Duffee yesterday, please make note of the following.

Davis: “It’s unfortunate, but Todd’s an ASSET and he will keep on fighting. He is a young kid and gets a lot of attention.”

The perils of quoting off text messages. I tweeted as Davis’ response appeared on my phone, but sometimes things get lost. Simple mix up.

Sergio Non has more:

UFC reportedly planned to bring Duffee back at UFC 121 in October for a fight with Jon Madsen. But Duffee had to back away from the bout because of an ailing knee.

Being released by UFC might hurt the finances of Duffee, who has made no secret of his monetary woes. He has spoken about it with Fight magazine, and last month posted on Twitter about “being completely broke.” That account has since been deleted — the last post was Aug. 29, according to Twitter.

Duffee made $8,000 in official purse money for the May 29 bout with Russow, and $10,000 (including a $5,000 win bonus) for beating Hague. Most fighters also get money from sponsors.

Here’s a tweet from Duffee’s since deleted account:
