United Glory Welterweight Tournament Taking Shape

United Glory, the promoting arm of Dutch gym Golden Glory, has nearly rounded out the field for its 2010-2011 welterweight “world series,” beginning at “Glory 12” on October 16 in Amsterdam.

Tatame provided this updated list of participants today, which adds newly-crowned Shooto 167-pound world champ Luis “Beição” Ramos to the mix:

Siyar Bahadurzada (17-4-1)
Luis “Beição” Ramos (16-5)
Roan “Jucão” Carneiro (13-8)
Nick Thompson
(38-13-1)
David Bielkheden (16-7)
Sergey Golyaev (17-7)
Tommy Depret (6-3)

One additional fighter will be added to complete the eight-man bracket; winners move on to the semifinals on January 30. Names like Shinya Aoki, Paul Daley and Marius Zaromskis were initially floated, then withdrawn soon after the tournament was announced. Nick Thompson has been on the roster since the start, but suffered a brutal knockout at Sunday’s SRC 14, his third straight loss.

Strikeforce women’s 135-pound contender Marloes Coenen (17-4) is also set to participate at the same show against an opponent to be announced. The fight will come just one week after her title shot against Sarah Kaufman in San Jose.
