The Showtime broadcast is live, first fight up shortly.
Miesha Tate vs. Maiju Kujala – Round 1 – Tate with a jab and clinches up with Kujala. They’re really struggling working the clinch. Kujala doing a nice job defending so far in the clinch. Tate finally gets the takedown and Kujala is defending well and she’s trying to control the head. The ref with a very odd stand-up as Tate is working for a sub and the round ends. 3 minute rounds are horrible. Round 2 – Tate lands a flurry going backward and they clinch up and Kujala is starting to land later in the round and Tate misses a takedown. They’re really going at each other in the clinch and this only being a 6 minute fight is really horrible. Tate with a takedown and that should get her the win. The round, and fight ends and I guess I’d say Tate should win here but the odd 2 round system makes it really hard to know what is going on. Miesha Tate wins by unanimous decision.
Carina Damm vs. Hitomi Akano – Round 1 – In an exchange Damm gets Akano’s back and is working for a choke but ends up in Akano’s guard. Akano opening her guard looking to catch an arm and Damm lands a few punches. Damm not working much and the fight is stood up. Spinning backfist from Damm and Akano with the takedown and she has half guard. Akano looking for a footlock and they blow a whistle to signal 10 seconds so the girls stop fighting. This is really awful and I refuse to score 3 minute rounds with bad standups and whistles that cause the rounds to end early. Round 2 – Damm with a leg kick and another spinning backfist. Akano with a takedown from the inside. Akano looks for an omoplata and Damm avoids and lands a hammerfist. Akano with a great transition into an armbar and Damm is forced to tap out. Wow, great submission. Hitomi Akano wins by submission (armbar), round 2.
Ryan Couture vs. Lucas Stark – Round 1 – Right hand lands for Stark and Couture clinches up and takes him down. As they stand back up Stark with a really nice takedown and Couture locks up a very quick and tight triangle and it’s over. Ryan Couture wins by submission (triangle choke), round 1.
Hitomi Akano vs. Miesha Tate – Round 1 – They’re standing up through the first minute with not much action until Akano lands to the body. Tate with a takedown and she almost has Akano’s back but Akano scrambles and gets pinned against the cage. Akano locks in a very deep footlock and Tate breaks the grip. Tate landing some punches from the top now and the round ends. 10-9 Akano easy. Round 2 – Right hand lands hard for Take and she gets a takedown. She takes and maintains it for the majority of the round, finally working for a choke in the last 20 seconds of the round. Akano turns into her and lands a flurry of hammerfists as the round ends. 10-9 Tate. Round 3 – Body kick by Tate, Akano tries for a throw but Tate takes her back. Tate is really working to sink in the rear naked choke. Tate flurries as the round ends and there’s no way she lost this fight. 29-28 Tate. Official Scorecards: Miesha Tate wins by unanimous decision.
Joe Riggs vs. Louis Taylor – Round 1 – Taylor with a hook and kicks to the leg and body. Riggs briefly had a single and Taylor pops up and pushes Riggs into the cage looking for the takedown. Taylor with a nice takedown and he’s on top in Riggs’ closed guard. Taylor stands back up as he couldn’t get off with his strikes and they’re back to striking. Riggs comes up short with a superman punch. Riggs lands a right hand counter that lands. Taylor working a lot of leg kicks. Right hand from Taylor clips Riggs on the ear. Right hand from Riggs. Spinning back elbow from Taylor misses. They clinch up again and Taylor pushes him into the cage. Knee to the body by Taylor and the round ends. 10-9 Taylor. Round 2 – Leg kick by Riggs. Superman punch from Riggs lands. Taylor lands to the body and Riggs misses a counter. Taylor with a bad attempt at a double and Riggs avoids. Left hand lands for Riggs. Taylor with a nice combination but mostly hits air. Taylor lands as they separate from the clinch. Taylor with a takedown into half guard and that is a big moment in the fight ad he could win this round now and go up 20-18. Taylor controlling from the top and landing some short punches. Taylor flurries as the round ends and should have won the round 10-9. Round 3 – Taylor with a leg kick. Side kick to the body from Taylor. Left hand from Riggs rocks Taylor badly. Riggs takes him down and is looking to land some punches. Crucifix by Riggs and he is landing punches and Taylor taps out. Good comeback for Riggs that he never should have had to make. Joe Riggs wins by submission (strikes), round 3.
