Sports by Brooks is reporting that Rashad Bobino is the man in the Huerta video:

While the identity of the man who struck the woman has not officially been released by the Austin Police Department, I’ve learned from multiple sources who threw the punch.Former starting Univ. of Texas Linebacker Rashad Bobino, who last played for the Longhorns in 2008, was the individual who punched the unidentified woman from behind as seen in theTMZ.com video.

Bobino is now out of football after being cut by the Atlanta Falcons before the 2009 NFL season.

I’ve heard similar rumors from friends in Austin who are connected to UT football.

More after the break:

The Big Lead comments:

Listed at 230-pounds during his days at Texas, Bobino spent some time with the Falcons last year before being cut. You have to appreciate the fact that Huerta took down a former Texas athlete in Austin.  Most big time college athletes can get away with murder in the city they play in so you have to wonder what past transgretions this guy has gotten away with to make him think he could punch a woman. Let alone the fact that he was in public. Huerta says Bobino responded to him by saying:

“F*ck you, f*ck these bitches, I’ll knock out any f*ckin’ bitch that I wanna f*ckin’ knock out, I’ll knock your f*cking bitch ass out.”

Maybe next time he won’t pick on people smaller than him. Especially women and professional fighters.

And the ATXFL — an Austin flag football league has posted this comment:

The ATXFL would like the public to know that we are aware of the accusations regarding a player who, at one point, participated in our league. E-Mail has been pouring in from individuals who are angry about what transpired a couple weekends ago here in Austin, TX involving a former UFC/MMA athlete and allegedly a former University of Texas football player. We agree that the man who started the altercation did an absolutely horrible thing, but we cannot take any action until identities are confirmed by the authorities. As of right now, everything appears to be speculation and rumor.

However, it is worth noting that the individual no longer participates in our league even though he is listed on a team roster. It is also very important to understand that the ATXFL is a recreational, albeit competitive pay to play league. We do not have players who are compensated to play in the AXTFL. Therefore, it is not our place to punish or take action towards players in this league based on what they do off the football field.

Thank You,

The ATXFL

And an “R. Bobino” is indeed listed on the page linked above.

CagePotato has this charming quote from Bobino:

“That’s who we are. If you don’t want it, don’t come out there. If you don’t want to be hit, don’t step on the field. When we step on the field, you’re going to be hit, and we’re going to hit you hard.” – Rashad Bobino possibly addressing his football opponents OR women who might go to a club he frequents called “The Field.”
