Epic.
Shane Carwin hits hard. A left uppercut clipped Lesnar and hurt him in the first. Brock reeled and backed up into the fence. Carwin pounced and eventually had Lesnar on his back shoved up against the cage.
Carwin had over half the round to work from there. Josh Rosenthal should be commended for his work here. While Carwin was landing, Lesnar never stopped fighting back. Eventually Carwin was throwing shots at Lesnar’s arms, unable to get through Brock’s defenses. Brock eventually worked back to his feet and stalled until the bell.
If Carwin’s power was his one true known, his gas tank was the unknown. Coming into the second, Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg wondered if Carwin had overexerted himself working for the finish. He looked tired, and it didn’t help matters when Lesnar took him down with a double leg takedown.
From there, Lesnar showed his progression as a fighter, passing from half guard into the mount. Instead of posturing up and raining down blows, Lesnar instead transitioned right into an arm triangle. Carwin defended well, doing a good job to separate his should from his neck. But once Lesnar got the right leverage, he adjusted the hold and forced Carwin to tap.
