Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza earned a hard-fought decision win over a game Joey Villesenor at Strikeforce: Heavy Artillery in St. Louis.

In his last Strikeforce appearance Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza quickly submitted Matt Lindland, about a minute into tonight’s fight with Joey Villasenor it looked like it would be another quick tap out win for the Brazilian. Villasenor managed to escape from the mounted position and get back to his feet. Jacare landed a mean knee to the face as Villesenor stood up. After landing some mean standing knees to Villasenor’s body, Jacare took him down again and worked some very effective ground and point from the top. Before the round ended, Jacare threatened a kiimura but Villesenor fought it off.

Jacare needed less than a minute to land a powerful double leg takedown on Villesenor. But within thirty seconds, Villesenor had fought back to his feet. Sadly for the Greg Jackson trained fighter, Jacare soon had him down again. But he was unable to capitalize and this time when Villasenor got back to his feet he began to score with hard punches. But when Jacare landed a hook of his own he quickly followed with a double leg take down. But he was too tired to even pass Villasenor’s guard.

In the third, Villesenor came out knowing he was behind on the score cards but with an excellent chance to win it on the feet. Jacare shot in after eating a couple of jabs and Villesenor stuffed the shoot for the first time in the fight. Then Jacare failed on a second take down attempt. But after Jacare managed to answer Villesenor’s punches with one of his own, he succeeded in a double leg take down attempt. He was dominating on the ground and landing shots when the ref made a questionable decision to stand the fight back up. But Jacare managed to get the fight back to the ground and ended the fight in dominating position.
