MMA Mania has the scoop on two lightweights looking to get back in the win column:
An interesting lightweight battle between Takanori Gomi and Joe Stevenson is in the works for a 155-pound scrap at UFC on Versus 2. The card is set to go down on August 1 from Energy Solutions Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah.
MMAmania.com recently confirmed the match up with a source close to the situation.
Although Gomi will have the striking advantage in this fight, unlike in his debut against Kenny Florian, he’s still going to have to deal with a powerful wrestler in Stevenson, and despite Gomi’s own wrestling credentials, he was taken down easily by Florian. If Stevenson decides to show off his mediocre striking as he did against Diego Sanchez, it could be a short night for “Joe Daddy”, but if he sticks to the grappling and ground-and-pound he used quite successfully against Nate Diaz and Spencer Fisher, he stands a good chance at making it two UFC losses in a row for “The Fireball Kid.”
