UFC 110 Preview: Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Cain Velasquez – “It’s My Time Now”

“I’m still in the game; I got to train more than ever. I’ve been fighting for 11 years, I have a lot of passion for what I do. I’ve been improving a lot. I feel very motivated. I got a very good conditioning coach. I improve about everything.”

“Cain has top wrestling. He got a good single leg, double legs, and good transitions. He moves a lot. He got a good shape. I think he’s using MMA in the same style he uses in wrestling. Just go and go and go. Not many fighters can follow him in the Heavyweight. He’s moving like a light heavyweight for the heavyweight division. He’s not a good submission fighter, but he positions himself in a way he can punch. He can control his opponent. That’s what makes him good.”

“I got a lot more experience than him. For sure I’m going to use that in the cage. He’s hungry; I’m experienced and hungry too. So I’m going to use that you know, I got more experience in jiu-jitsu, my boxing is very good too. I think it’s a good match up for me.”

“For the Ben Rothwell fight game plan was too consistently move, get him more aware of the striking and look for an opening to take him down. Just beat him up on the ground. I think Mazzagatti saved Ben from having an even worse night that night.”

“Nogueira is definitely the toughest task that I’ve had to face. I’ve watched a lot of his tapes and his films, a lot of his fights. I know that he has a lot of experience and he’s always dangerous when he fights.”

“But I know it’s my time now. He’s just another guy up in the ladder to get where I want to be and that’s to be the UFC heavyweight Champion. I knew this time would come when I got here; every fight is going to get tougher and tougher and fight tougher guys. And I’m going to fight guys who I’ve watched every since this sport was young.”

“I think for Nogueira I need to be twice as sharp on the ground. Can’t let him get anything because he’s awesome on the ground. He doesn’t give up and I don’t give up either. Cage door closing, you’ll expect a war.”
