Strikeforce: Miami – Live Results and Commentary

As with every major show, BloodyElbow.com will be here to bring you live results and commentary for Strikeforce: Miami.  The live blog will start with the beginning of the Showtime broadcast (at 10PM ET) so make sure to make Bloody Elbow your home for this event.

As always we have our one rule: NO SPOILERS! In the interest of not ruining anything from the undercard that may make the broadcast we ask that you do not discuss the results of the undercard in the comments until either the broadcast ends or the fight makes the air.

Wes Sims vs. Bobby Lashley – Round 1 – Wes Sims asks for a pro wrestling “test of strength.”  Left hook by Sims and now a jab.  Right hand just misses for Sims and Lashley with a quick takedown.  Lashley with a flurry of punches and tries for a guard pass.  Sims with an armbar attempt of sorts but nothing doing other than maintaining guard.  Lashley with a few more punches that land flush.  Lashley is hurting him and Sims gives his back.  Lashley takes it and lands several more punches and Sims flops to his belly and the ref stops the fight.  Mauro says it was an early stoppage but if you go limp, the fight will be stopped.  Bobby Lashley wins by TKO (strikes), round 1.

Melvin Manhoef vs. Robbie Lawler – Round 1 – Manhoef takes the center of the cage.  Lawler is getting closer and closer to the cage now.  Big body kick by Melvin.  Head kick by Lawler is blocked.  Body kick by Melvin again.  Lawler is circling still and now throws a leg kick and it looked like he wanted to shoot.  Leg kick by Manhoef lands hard.  Manhoef lands a few punches and now another big body kick.  Big leg kick by Melvin again and Lawler has to do something.  A flurry of punches and kicks and Lawler is hurt.  Melvis is destroying him with punches and massive leg kicks.  Another leg kick and Lawler is hurting badly.  Overhand right by Lawler and Manhoef goes down!  Two more huge punches and Melvin is out cold!  Manhoef is out!  That came out of nowhere and the fight is over.  Lawler is limping badly as he walks around the cage taking his victory stroll.  Manhoef is just coming to on the ground now and Lawler is limping VERY badly.  Robbie Lawler wins by KO, round 1.

Greg Nagy vs. Herschel Walker – Round 1 – Walker with a left handBoth men land jabs.  Nagy is using side to side movement and eats a leg kick.  Walker with a leg kick and avoids the takedown attempt of Nagy.  Sprawl works and Walker spins to take the back.  Uses it to get to mount, now half guard and he lands a flurry of punches. Nagy looking for a leg lock but Walker looks okay.  Walker muscles Nagy’s leg down and lands another punch.  Nagy tries for a heel hook and Walker spins out of it.  Now Walker has north-south.  Walker traps Nagy’s arm and lands a flurry of punches as the round ends.  That was a high energy round and Walker is breathing with his mouth closed. 10-9 Walker on the Bloody Elbow card.  Round 2 – Leg kick by Walker and Nagy looks fairly tired.  Takedown from the clinch by Walker.  Walker transitions to the back fairly impressively.  Nagy turns and Walker has the mount.  Nagy working his legs up to try and sweep but Walker’s base is solid and high up on Nagy’s body.  Nagy stands up and has Nagy bent over.  The crowd screams for Herschel to throw a knee and he obliges.  Nagy just can’t take him down.  Again Walker takes the back.  The round ends with Wilker landing some punches and again, walks to his corner breathing through his nose.  His cardio is sickeningly amazing.  10-9 Walker again.  Round 3– Nagy throws a right hand and then just pulls guard.  Armbar attempt by Nagy, but Walker avoids well.  Herschel gets to full mount again.  Nagy gives the back again and Walker starts to land punches to Nagy’s body and as Nagy isn’t even attempting to do anything the ref is forced to stop the fight.  Herschel Walker wins by TKO (strikes), round 3.

Cris “Cyborg” Santos vs. Marloes Coenen – Round 1 – They charge into a clinch with both fighters throwing knees.  Coenen just misses with a strike and now lands a right hand.  Cyborg reestablishes the clinch and gets the takedown.  Marloes gets full guard.  Coenen almost locks an armbar attempt by Cyborg avoids and lands a right hand.  Cyborg wants to stand back up and Coenen lands a right hand but Cyborg is landing bigger shots in exchange.  Leg kick by Cyborg lands hard.  Coenen with double underhooks against the cage but can’t finish the takedown attempt.  Footstomps by Coenen and she’s willing to be nasty.  Elbow lands hard for Coenen as does an uppercut.  Competitive round but 10-9 for the champion on our card.  Round 2 – Cyborg knocks Coenen down but it seemed as much from lack of balance than a knockdown.  Cyborg landing a few strikes from the top and Marloes regains guard.  Coenen working her legs up high but Cyborg’s strength is serving her well to avoid submissions so far.  Cyborg stands back up and they’re on the feet again.  Left hand lands for Cyborg now.  Cyborg is landing a lot more frequently now.  Coenen can’t finish a takedown attempt and ends up on her back.  Coenen looks for a triangle and Cyborg slams out of it again.  Santos posturing up and landing punches now.  10-9 Cyborg again as the round ends.  Round 3 – Coenen driving for a takedown, pushing Cyborg all over the cage but can’t finish before pinning her back against the cage.  Cyborg is just able to avoid any damage from Coenen at this point and is now on top on the ground working over Coenen’s body.  Big right hands by Cyborg and they go back to standing.  Huge right hand by Coenen and Cyborg takes it without even blinking.  Now back to the ground and Cyborg is unloading.  Coenen isn’t defending herself and finally the ref has to stop the fight.  Cris “Cyborg” Santos wins by TKO (strikes), round 3.

Marius Zaromskis vs. Nick Diaz – Round 1 – Marius runs forward and throws a jumping body kick and is landing multiple punches.  Diaz lands a few and Marius is hurt.  Zaromskis lands a good knee and Diaz reaches for the takedown.  Dias throwing knees to the thigh from the clinch.  Zaromskis isn’t doing anything to avoid the knees to the leg.  They separate after a takedown attempt and Diaz is landing.  Zaromskis lands a big shot and Diaz is hurt.  Zaromskis is on top on the ground now and Diaz is bleeding.  Back to standing and Diaz catches a kick from Marius.  Both men continue to land hard punches.  Diaz landing the better punches from range now.  Body kick by Marius.  Diaz landing hard now.  Body shots by Diaz are hurting him.  Diaz is beating upm up badly now.  Right hand by Diaz and Zaromskis goes down and the fight is over.  What a round.  Nick Diaz wins by KO (punch), round 1.
