What a difference a small cup of urine makes.
On June 22nd, the California State Athletic Commisison released a statement announcing Josh Barnett testing positive for the anabolic steroid Drostanolone. Barnett was denied a license to fight, Affliction couldn’t (or didn’t) find a replacement for Fedor Emelianenko, and the card was canceled. Twenty-two fighters lost out on paydays. Affliction’s MMA promotion folded. The s— hit the proverbial fan.
What makes the situation even more disgraceful? Barnett tested positive seven years ago following his victory over Randy Couture for the UFC heavyweight title at UFC 36. So, not only is he a dirty cheater, but he’s bad at being a dirty cheater.
