After five minutes eroding his ring rust, Urijah Faber emphatically staked his return to the WEC cage.
The Sacramento crowd started hot from the opening notes of “California Love”. Faber responded in turn. Raphael Assuncao matched Faber’s speed and strength in a closely contested first round. But from the opening bell in the second round, the fight was all Faber.
Urijah dropped the tough Assuncao twice. In round two, Faber nearly ended the fight with a guillotine choke before Assuncao defended and escaped. But after giving up his back in round three, Faber pounced, locked on a rear naked choke, and got the tap out.
Jose Aldo entered the cage following the bout, setting up a future title fight with Faber.
