Late Night Fights: Volk Han vs. Branden Lee Hinkle

Nate discussed Volk Han a bit back in MMA History XV: Pancrase, RINGS and Shooto 1996.  This fight was considerably later in Han’s career happening in June of 2000 at Rings – Millennium Combine 2.  Volk is one of the greatest early pioneers of the sport and it is rare to ever hear his name brought up when talking about the early greats.

Branden Lee Hinkle’s biggest claim to fame is probably his destruction of Sean Gannon (the guy who “defeated” Kimbo Slice in a street fight) at UFC 55.  Coming into the evening Hinkle was sporting a 3-4 record but had opened his career with a fight against the tough and experienced Ebanezer Fontes Braga and had also had fights against the likes of Carlos Barreto (a man whose skill has been lost in his highlight reel knockout at the hands of Igor Vovchanchyn).

Volk’s stand-up game was never pretty, but his ground game was for real.
