For those of you who can’t wait the five hours for results, come on in and talk about the action as it actually happens.
This post DOES contain spoilers.
Ross Pearson defeats Aaron Riley by TKO (cut), Round 2 – The first round clearly belonged to Ross Pearson as he controlled the entire pace of the fight. Pearson used feints from outside and was able to unload on Riley with very tight boxing skills, knees from the Thai clinch, superman punches and kicks to the head, body and legs. In the second round Pearson was able to continue dominating the stand up before cutting Riley with a jumping knee that forced the doctor to stop the bout.
Matt Brown defeats James Wilks by TKO (punches), Round 3 – In the third round of a grueling fight Matt Brown was finally able to take mount and pound James Wilks until the referee was forced to stop the bout. Throughout the first round Wilks was pushing Brown against the fence trying to get the takedown and the physical grappling wore both men down.
In the second round Brown came close to finishing the fight after hurting Wilks with a flying knee. Wilks was able to survive and even end up in side control at one point in the round.
In the third WIlks went for a kimura and in the scramble Brown took mount and dropped heavy hands down on James’ face. Wilks was forced to give up his back where he ate more punches until the ref jumped in.
Undercard Fight Shown: Andre Winner defeats Roli Delgado by KO (punch), round 1 – An undercard bout was shown with Andre Winner knocking Roli Delgado out cold with a huge overhand right. Brutal stuff as the ref was out of position and Delgado ate a few punches after being knocked out.
Michael Bisping defeats Denis Kang by TKO (strikes), round 2 – Denis Kang dropped Michael Bisping in the first round but the Brit was able to survive the round by using slick bottom hip escapes to remain out of any major trouble. Early in the second round Bisping took Kang down and unleashed relentless ground and pound leading to a ref stoppage. The second round was complete domination by Bisping who cut Kang up and forced him to wilt under an onslaught from the top.
Dan Hardy defeats Mike Swick by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)– Dan Hardy was able to hurt Mike Swick standing in every round of the fight. Swick had moments where he was able to catch Hardy in exchanges but never was able to hurt him and make him question throwing his hands. The odd moments were when Hardy would buckle Swick’s legs he usually charged in to clinch rather than go for the finish.
Randy Couture defeats Brandon Vera by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) – In a fight that was mostly fought with Brandon Vera’s back against the fence Randy Couture was able to pull off a narrow unanimous decision. In the moments where the fight was fought at a distance Vera was able to score with kicks. Vera’s best moment came in the second round when he landed a kick to the body and a knee that forced Randy to turn his back and fall to the mat. He wasn’t able to finish though and Couture controlled the majority of the final round to secure the judges scorecards.
