Despite some of the things that I’ve written in my time here at BloodyElbow, I don’t consider myself to be some sort of behavior police for fighters but when Tito Ortiz pulled this whole trip on a homeless guy, what in the hell was he thinking?
I’m honestly ashamed of Ortiz being in public, obviously on camera and berating a homeless man for being lazy. What does he know about the situation that put this man on the streets? It’s really nice that Tito was able to get himself up out of “the streets” that he came from through hard work. But for every success story where a man was able to survive these conditions and become a superstar in a sport there are tens of thousands of stories of men dying in those same streets.
Look, maybe Tito was right and the guy is just some lazy bum who would rather look for handouts than put in an honest days work. Or maybe he is wrong and this is a guy who got into a situation he can’t find a way out of. Either way, this was just a dumb time for Tito to choose to deliver a pointless lecture. These are the moments that can stick in peoples minds to cement our sport as one for cruel meatheads when Tito could have simply left it as “I’m sorry brother, but no.”
