Bobby Southworth suffered a very deep cut above his right eye as the result of a left elbow from Renato “Babalu” Sobral in the first round of the Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Championship. Big John stopped the fight to allow the doctors to check it out, the fight was allowed to continue until the end of the round. As Southworth sat on his stool it was determined he could not continue and the fight was stopped, awarding Sobral with a TKO win.
In notable undercard action Yves Edwards continued his backward slide with a decision loss to Duane “Bang” Ludwig, Kim Couture won via a dominant TKO in the first round against Lina Kvokov and Joe Riggs defeated Luke Stewart via second round TKO.
