“Affliction: Banned” LIVE Results and Updates

BloodyElbow.com is live at “Affliction: Banned,” and will begin reporting live results starting at about 4:00pm, or whenever the first preliminary fight starts.

Paul Buentello vs. Gary Goodrich:  There is some kind of delay.  Gary Goodrich is laying down in the ring, and now both guys have left.  They’re now back ten minutes later… who knows what is going on.

Round 1:  Neither guy is in the best shape.  The ring, by the way, is much bigger than most rings I’ve seen MMA fights in.  Buentello is just taking him apart while Goodrich covers up.  Buentello decks him with a right, but Goodrich is tough to finish.  Left body kick from Goodrich!  Buentello rocks him and tries to follow up, but Gary survives again.  Goodrich unloads some kicks, and finishes off the round with a leg kick and an overhand right.  Bloody Elbow scores the round 10-9 for Paul Buentello.

Round 2:  Buentello is more cautious to start the second.  Buentello rocks him and stars unloading standing elbows, but Goodrich does not look hurt.  Buentello is winning, but man he would have been beat badly by Aleks.  Goodrich with a strong right and tries to follow it up with a takedown, but Buentello stuffs it.  Buentello finishes strong with a flurry, but he does not have the gas tank to finish the fight. Bloody Elbow scores the round 10-9 for Paul Buentello.

Round 3:  Buentello is landing some crisp shots, but Goodrich is tough.  They clinch in the corner, where Buentello continues to dominate.  Goodrich looks really tired now, Buentello should be able to finish.  He nails a jumping knee and a huge right!  He now has the thai clinch, but Goodrich is surviving.  Goodrich is bleeding now, but  he’s still going.  Goodrich is swinging for the fences, and Buentello counters by unloading knees, but Goodrich survives again.  Bloody Elbow scores the round 10-9 for Paul Buentello.

Bloody Elbow Score: 30-27 for Paul Buentello.

Official Score:  30-27 unanimous decision for Paul Buentello.

I now see they have started the FSN show, and they are showing Buentello vs. Goodrich.  I have no idea why they didn’t just show this live.  They have three fights to get to within an hour, and they’re going to show this.  The show is not being run very professionally live so far.  Since the show was supposed to start at 4, we have seen one fight, and mostly sat around while they figured things out.

Vitor Belfort vs. Terry Martin:  Belfort is a star to this crowd, he gets a big ovation.  Terry Martin comes out to “Beat It” and thus wins the contest for worst MMA entrance song ever.

Round 1:  Crowd notices Randy and goes nuts for him.  Vitor is reluctant to engage at first, but hits a nice body kick.  Vitor appears to be concerned about Martin’s power, he’s keeping a distance.  They clinch, and the crowd boos.    Martin rocks him with a right, but doesn’t follow up.  Vitor is moving away and throwing right jabs, but he’s not connecting.  Not much happened in this round.  Bloody Elbow scores the round 10-9 for Terry Martin.

Round 2:  They start to engage a little more, with Martin getting the better of it.  Vitor goes for a kick, but Martin takes him down.  Vitor stands up and scores a few times on the way up.  He’s starting to land that right hand more and more.    Vitor connects on a jumping knee, and then DESTROYS Terry Martin with a right uppercut and a straight left hand!  Vitor Belfort wins via knockout.

The PPV has started, and I think it’s time for Megadeath.  Is there any more perfect band for Affliction clothing wearers?   The arena is mostly full with scattered empty seats.  Nobody cares about Megadeath, but it’s not so bad if it’s only a song or two.

“Stone Cold” Steve Austin is here on the floor and capturing as much attention as Megadeath.  Still, a pretty cool introduction all things considered.

JJ Ambrose vs. MIke Pyle:

Round 1:  They clinch to start, and Pyle fights a takedown attempt.  He gets one of his own, and gets to mount almost immediately.  He lands some good shots from the back, and Ambrose is in big trouble.  Pyle goes for an arm triangle but Ambrose survives.  Pyle flattens him out, and finally gets the rear naked choke for the submission win.  Mike Pyle wins by submission in round 1.

Edwin Dewees vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira:

Round 1:  Dewees sounds very confident before the fight, but I’m not buying it.  Dewees throwing a series of low impact kicks

to start.  Nogueira nails him with a hard overhand left, and follows up with a straight left in the corner.  Dewees is now holding him in the corner, but Nogueira gets out.  Nogueira ends up on top on the ground, which is not a good place for Dewees to be.  Nogueira stands and lets him up!  Nogueira is destroying him with knees in the thai clinch, and then unloads in the corner!  He drops Dewees with a left, and then finishes it on the ground.  Antonio Rogerio Nogueira wins via TKO at 4:06 of the first round.

Matt Lindland vs. Fabio Negao:

Round 1:  Lindland drops him right away with a left and goes for a guillotine, but Negao survives!  Lindland holds on and goes for it again, but Negao is staying in it.  He’s now out, but Lindland retains top control, and goes for….a double axehandle.  Lindland is dropping bombs from the top.  Negao gets up, but he’s hurting.  Bloody Elbow scores the round 10-9 for Lindland.

Round 2:  Negao comes out swinging early in round 2, and he’s connecting!  He nails Lindland with a few good shots, but Lindland survives.  Lindland turns it around and takes it down, and I think Negao just missed his only chance to win this fight.  Lindland is landing a lot of shots, but they don’t have steam on them.  Bloody Elbow scores the round 10-9 Lindland.

Round 3:  Lindland scores a bit standing to start, and Negao starts running away.  Both guys look very tired in the third round, but Negao moreso.  Lindland is connecting more, but Negao looks bad now.  Lindland gets a good knee and a few straight lefts, but doesn’t have the gas to finish him.  People really think Matt Lindland would beat Anderson Silva?  Bloody Elbow scores the round 10-9 for Lindland.

Bloody Elbow Score:  30-27 for Matt Lindland.

Official Score:  Unanimous Decision for Matt Lindland (30-27, 30-27, 30-26).

Mike Whitehead vs. Renato “Babalu” Sobral:

Round 1:  First minute is pretty much a stalemate.  Whitehead is stopping Babalu’s takedowns, but neither guy is doing much damage.  They clinch in the corner, but not much comes of it.  Good uppercut from Whitehead.  Babalu gets a takedown with 20 seconds left, but Whitehead is able to get up.  Bad round.  Bloody Elbow scores the round 10-9 for Babalu.

Round 2:  Whitehead goes for a takedown, but Babalu is able to keep it standing.  This fight is way boring.    Whitehead fights for a takedown, and he finally gets it.  He may steal the round.  Babalu has grabbed a shoulder, but Whitehead avoids the omoplata.  Babalu gets an elbow coming off a clinch, but it didn’t do much damage.  Uhh, real close, but Bloody Elbow scores the round 10-9 for Mike Whitehead.

Round 3:  Babalu scores on a leg kick, but Whitehead stops two takedown attempts.  Babalu channels his shadiness and goes for a submission once both men are through the ropes.  Babalu starts unloading, and Whitehead takes him down through the ropes again.  This fight sucks.  Whitehead is desparately going for a takedown, and finally gets it, avoiding the guillotine.  Babalu gets an odd version of an omoplata, which looked cool but did nothing.  The ref finally stands them up for doing nothing.  Babalu is landing enough to win, barely.  Babalu tries a cool looking spin kick near the end of the round, but yeah, almost nothing from either guy.  Bloody Elbow Scores the round 10-9 for Babalu.

Bloody Elbow Score:  29-28 for Renato “Babalu” Sobral.

Official Score:  Unanimous decision for Renato “Babalu” Sobral.

Note:  Due to Affliction wearers insisting on standing in front, the sight lines have completely evaporated.  I’m going to be moving over to stand and watch, and then I will come back to do a round by round update.

Mark Hominick vs. Savant Young:

Round 1:  Real boring round.  They stood and traded the entire time, but nobody really connected in any meaningful way.  Hominick got the better of it a couple times though and pressed the pace, so Bloody Elbow scores it 10-9 for Hominick.

Round 2:  Nothing of consequence happens.  Young ends up on top, and I will boldly predict a standup.  Hominick twists into a triangle attempt, and Young slams his way out of it!  Hominick goes for an arm bar from the bottom, moves for a triangle, and switches again to an arm bar for the finish!  Hey that got awesome at the end!  Mark Hominick wins via submission at 4:25 of Round 2.

Pedro Rizzo vs. Josh Barnett:

Round 1:  Solid first round.  Barnett dominated the standup, but Rizzo stuck in there.  Barnett’s best scores were with a superman punch/left hook combination and a spin kick.  Bloody Elbow scores the round 10-9 for Barnett.

Round 2:  Barnett comes out swinging in round 2.  Crowd is more interested in a fight in the crowd and…BOOM!  Barnett finishes him with a left hook in gross fashion.  Rizzo has no idea where he is.  Josh Barnett wins via knockout (missed the time).

Barnett follows the win with an epic promo.  Luke was right, the man totally can be a star.

Andrei Arlovski vs. Ben Rothwell:

Round 1:   Rothwell connects with punches early, and Arlovski responds with a flurry.    Good leg kick from Arlovski.  Rothwell hits a great right hand, but Arlovski seems okay.  Fight is pretty even so far.  Arlovski takes him down out of the clinch, and Rothwell avoids an ankle lock!  Excelent work.  Arlovski with a big flurry of punches, but Rothwell survives.  Rothwell with a nice right, and the round ends.  Bloody Elbow scores the round 10-9 for Arlovski.

Round 2:  Rothwell hits some nice shots to start, but gets caught by Arlovski.  Arlovski follows up with a huge flurry, but somehow Rothwell survives!  Arlovksi goes for an ankle lock, but Rothwell escapes and ends up on top!  Rothwell drops a couple real hard elbows, but it will be hard to steal the round after what happened earlier.  We have a complete bullshit standup, and then Arlovski beats the crap out of Rothwell.  Bloody Elbow scores the round 10-9 for Arlovski.

Round 3:  After about a minute of clinching, Andrei Arlovski finishes Ben Rothwell standing with a great flurry.  This was just a great fight.  Andrei Arlovski wins via knockout.

Fedor Emelianenko vs. Tim Sylvia:

Round 1:  Jesus Christ.  Fedor demolishes Sylvia, knocking him down with a flurry and choking him out.  Fedor via submission at :36 of round 1.  Is Randy sure he wants this fight?
