Rebuilding The Heavyweight Division

The UFC’s heavyweight division right now is a mess.  They have a great champion in Nogueira, but the talent drop-off after him is huge.  They are in the process now of building the division from scratch around Brock Lesnar, Cain Velasquez, and Shane Carwin.  Carwin makes his Octagon debut at UFC 84, and a lot of people are watching.

Nate Marquardt, who trains with him, had the following to say:

“Wrestling is his strength, but his overall ground game is very good,” Marquardt said. “He’s super, super dangerous on the ground compared to other fighters of his experience level. But I’m going to be honest with you, his ground and pound is second to none. I’ve never seen anyone with his stopping power on the ground, and that’s comparing him to the best out there. I’ve seen him hit guys so hard, he’ll knock them unconscious. And he has power from positions you just can’t imagine.”

I suspect his fight will be shown on the PPV telecast if he gets the big win everyone is expecting.
