If you didn’t catch last night’s episode of BodogFIGHT, you missed out.  I know that may be hard to accept, but it’s true.  MMA Legend Jose “Pele” Landi-Jons made his return by taking on game newcomer Mitch McElroy.  It was classic Pele, with all of the brutal stand-up that entails.

And not to be outdone, one of the best women’s fights I’ve ever watched was featured on the same episode.  The “MMA Barbie” Carina Damm took on Molly Helsel in what can only be described as a barn burner.  Keep in mind Helsel cut 21 pounds off of her frame to make the 125lbs weight limit in just one week.  Despite that significant challenge, she fought as if cardio wasn’t even a factor.  Unbelievable.

Jeff Osbourne also made an interesting point about women’s MMA: whereas men let ego affect the way the fight takes place (they are consumed with how they are viewed) women instead bring ferocious tenacity and undying devotion to win.  They are less concerned with image and are therefore more interested in a tenacious scrap.  More importantly, women don’t usually get the opportunity to compete as regularly, so when they do they tend to let it all hang out.

Now if BodogFIGHT could find a way to turn interesting fights into a spectacle or event, they just might succeed in this business.
